For the autumn term (September - December 2018), we are trialling a new programme for The Writing Space. It will move from being on a Tuesday evening to being a monthly all-day Writing Space on Saturdays and Sunday.
This new all-day space will include the Reading Group, a writing prompt workshop, and 1-1 feedback clinics. There will also be a separate space where you can immerse yourself in your own writing, undisturbed, for the whole 8 hours (or for as long as you fancy).
Dates coming soon - sign up to our mailing list for more info.
Normal Tuesday evenings will resume in January 2019.
The Writing Space
Every Tuesday 6pm–8pm
House of Friendship, High Street, Lewes (next to Flint Owl)
£7.00 / £5.00 unwaged
Book block of 10 for £55.00
These weekly drop-in sessions, for writers of all levels, allow you to pursue your own writing practice in whichever way best meets your needs. A variety of stimulating writing exercises, activities and prompts are laid out around the room for you to explore at your own pace, covering all aspects of your writing from plot to character development and sensory subtexts.
For Established Writers...
There's no internet, no phones, no chores, Writers who are already busy with their own project can sit and enjoy two hours of productive, distraction-free time and the opportunity to share their progress with the group for feedback if they wish. Others, meanwhile, may take a break from writing and curl up in an armchair in the Reading Corner to find inspiration.
Space for Beginners...
If you are new to writing and don’t know where to start, we can give you plenty of guidance and support, including 1-1 time during the session to get you on your way. It is a very relaxed, welcoming and non-judgemental space in which to nurture your writing practice.
Food and Drink
Refreshments are available. You can also bring your own food to keep you going.
The venue has wheelchair access, although please note the toilet facilities are not currently wheelchair-friendly. Do contact us in advance if you require ramped access, so we can give you further details.
There is a small private car park at the back of the venue and the East Street car park above that is free after 5pm. The venue is a 5min walk from the bus station in Lewes, and 10 mins from the train station. We know many of our members travel from all over Sussex to come to our events. If you have any transport difficulty getting to the sessions, let us know and we can see if anyone from your area could car-share.
While this isn’t a writing course in the traditional sense, support and guidance will be available. There are plenty of excellent, structured, taught courses in Sussex to advance your practice and we can signpost you to some great classes if you would like this. Throughout the year, we also offer taught masterclasses and workshops with guest writers, or on a specific theme, to provide a more traditional writing class experience.
